Centennial Challenge Hikes

The Challenge: As part of the Centennial celebration, the Smoky Mountains Hiking Club is sponsoring ten Centennial Challenge Hikes, the mileage of which adds up to approximately 100 miles, for our 100 years! Any hiker (SMHC member or non-member) who hikes all of the specified hikes during 2024 is eligible to purchase a commemorative patch designed specifically for this Challenge. The hikes may be hiked in any order, and can be hiked with the Club, or on your own. Once all of the hikes are completed, the hiker may complete the form (located on the SMHC website) and submit it as instructed. The hiker is then eligible to purchase the specially designed Challenge Patch and their name will be listed on the SMHC website as completing the Challenge.

The required hikes are listed below and with their descriptions in the 2024 SMHC Handbook. Also note, that many or all of these hikes will be offered during the year as Wednesday hikes, which are also published in the monthly SMHC Newsletter. Registration for the hikes will be available online the month they are offered. Club led hikes, whether on a Saturday or a Wednesday, will be limited to 25 registrants, except as otherwise specified. Questions about the rules of the challenge? Contact Ed Fleming at edwrdflm@aol.com.
