Traveling the Old Settlers Trail, a hiker can see more traces of 19th and early 20th century mountain community life than any place else in the Park. We'll only hike a portion of this trail, starting at the Old Settlers Trailhead in Greenbriar. We'll make our way to Campsite 33 (6.6 miles), navigating stream crossings, climbing a few good hills, and searching for chimneys along the way. After lunch at the campsite, we'll return the same way. Hike is ~13 miles; rated Difficult for distance and a few good climbs.
To carpool, meet at Cracker Barrel Strawberry Plains at 7:30 - 1510 Cracker Barrel Lane, Exit 398 off of I-40. From Knoxville, turn right off of I-40, go to the first traffic light and turn right. Park on the right side of the lot. 75 miles r/t. $5.25. OK to round down.
Or meet at the trailhead at 8:45. Leader will meet at the trailhead.
