This subsection of the Three Gorges Segment of the Cumberland Trail will be hiked from south to north, starting at the Retro-Hughes trailhead and ending at our cars parked at the Lower Leggett Road Trailhead. From Retro-Hughs we walk on the plateau for about 1.5 miles, we descend into Rock Creek Gorge, passing mossy sandstone bluffs. We will cross Rock Creek on a beautiful 80 ft. bridge and make several other branch crossings on bridges. At about 5.4 miles you will hike the spur trail to the Legget Point Overlook. After enjoying views of the gorge and lunch, continue hiking about 2.0 miles joining the Lower Connector trail to our cars parked at the Lower Leggett trailhead.

* To carpool, meet at the Lowes in Harriman, (1800 Roane State Hwy. off of 1-40 Midtown, exit 350), ready to leave at 8:00am {1-hour 10-minute drive; 106 miles RT @ 7ยข/mile = $7.42}. Or meet at the Lower Leggett Road Trailhead at 9:30 am to shuttle for 20 minutes to the Retro-Hughes Trailhead. After the hike we will arrange to get the shuttle car.
