For the Saturday, October 4th work trip, we will backpack mulch out to the Icewater shelter storage bins. Mulch is pre-bagged in 20lb bags (you're only expected to carry one!) and we have extra backpack-style bags if needed. Although it may not sound very glamorous, carrying mulch is a crucial part of backcountry waste management! Experienced and non-experienced mulch mules welcome!

Hike to Icewater 6 miles RT. Meet at Newfound Gap parking lot at 8 am, or if you'd like to carpool, meet at Sugarlands Visitor Center at 7:15 am (26 miles roundtrip @ $0.07/ mile = $2 suggested to the driver).

Register at smhclub.org, so I know how much mulch to bring.

Note: This event is subject to change due to an indeterminate reopening schedule for U.S. 441/Newfound Gap Road after damage to the road from an early August landslide event.
