This Appalachian Trail work trip will involve mostly clearing vegetation and cleaning out water bars from Low Gap to the side trail to Mt. Cammerer. To help break up the workday, participants can join the leader for a visit to the fire tower at Mt. Cammerer.
Participants will need to wear sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate attire. Please also bring gloves, lunch, snacks, and plenty of water. Tools will be provided.
The access trails to the AT (Low Gap, 3 miles) and eventually Mt. Cammerer (for those interested) are considered difficult, so please be aware ahead of time.
Carpool from the Cracker Barrel on Strawberry Plains, I-40 exit 398, at 8:00am. Drive 120 miles RT {@ 0.7/mile =$8.40}.
The alternative meeting point is at the upper hiker parking lot below the entrance kiosk to the Cosby Campground at 9:00am.
